Scholarship Competition
The mission of the East County Star Vocal Competition is to amplify the voices of East County singers, both current and graduated students, and encourage continuing performing arts education and opportunities. This competition is limited to residents of East County San Diego only.
NO FEE IS REQUIRED TO AUDITION.
In 2025 our new categories are: High School Musical Theatre (High school grades 9-12), High School Pop (graades 9-12) Progressive (post-high school, no age cap), and a new category for self-accompanied/self-composed (entries depending). There is a $150 cash prize for the winner of each category.
Our Judges
WHAT TO PREPARE
Singers should choose a piece of any genre, whether pop, classical, musical theatre, or original composition; in the language of their choice that shows off their vocal and performance skills. Singers may choose to use a premixed backing track or may accompany themselves on piano or guitar as they choose. Vocal pieces should be appropriate for school grounds and a mixed age audience, and so should be free of any profanity or vulgar language. Performances will be with a cordless microphone and a stand will be provided. First round auditions will be by video submission (deadline March 15th, 2025). Singers should expect to record their piece by video (deadling March 15th, 2025) and upload to a private youtube channel or google drive and send the link in their registration form. NO FEE IS REQUIRED TO SUBMIT YOUR AUDITION. Entry fee for the performance will be payable once the singer has passed the first audition, and must be paid by check or cash by April 1st to be eligible.

WHAT TO EXPECT
Second round competition will be live at the Monte Vista Performing Arts center on April 19th 2025.
Preliminary rounds will begin at 8 a.m. on April 19th to choose the top five from each division as well as one judges favorite from each division. Final performance will take place at 6 p.m. and will include the 15 top performers and the judges performances. Tickets are $5.
Entry fee for the performance will be payable once the singer has passed the first audition, and must be paid by check or cash by April 1st to be eligible.
HOW TO SUBMIT
Prepare your audition piece carefully, reviewing the judging form to ensure you are not only bringing the highest vocal quality and preparation to your piece but also paying attention to technique, execution, presentation, staging (see judging form for details). Record your video with a neutral background, from the waist up to bring attention to your face and your expression while you sing.
