Riot and Shine–Season Four Part One!
After the death of their daughter to leukemia, Cora struggles to both be a caretaker to her wife’s grief and navigate her own–until a mysterious entity arrives one rainy night taking the shape of Cece, their daughter. Before Cora and Max can fully process the joy and relief of having one more day with Cece, a young detective knocks on their door, searching for a missing girl–and sees the Entity as her sister Lili, who died in a drive-by shooting. Who needs what the Entity promises more? Can you truly put grief on pause? And what would you do for just one more day with the one you lost?
A female-centric adaptation of Ray Bradbury’s short story “The Martian”, first published as part of Bradbury’s science fiction classic short story compilation “The Martian Chronicles”, this modernized story is set in the trauma informed community where playwright Sarah LeClair spent two decades teaching and pulls stories from her real life experiences.
Delia Mejia directs this ensemble cast starring Susan Clausen as Cora, Bliss Ross as Cruz, Nicki Barnes as Max, Guillermo Lopez-Cruz as Joe, and Paulette Romero as The Entity. Staged reading in association with the City Heights Performance Annex and the City of San Diego Libraries, funded in part by the California Arts Council.
The muses of the Impressionists like Renoir and Manet are remembered for their beautiful gowns, their lush curves, and the light on their flowing hair–and the scandalous stories we’ve told about their sex lives. But in reality many of them were artists in their own right, only posing for the masters in exchange for the ability, presumably, to learn at the feet of the most brilliant painters of the day. In return many of them had their art appropriated and hidden, and their reputations and their life stories reduced to nothing more than their own naked bodies on the canvases of the men who tried to erase them.
“Naked–A Musical” (book by Germaine Shames and music by Tareq Abuissa) brings those muses to life in a small exhibition inside a midwestern gallery and stepping out of their paintings to demand their truth be told. Presented at The LightBox, with generous support from the California Arts Council, January 8-10.

Come dress up in your sparkles for a fancy New Year’s Eve party and enjoy a step and repeat and mingle with the most fabulous people, and then chill out before the ball drops with incredible party themed music from your favorite San Diego performers including San Diego’s Voice of the Decade, Eboni Muse!
