Character Breakdown:
* Grace: mid to late 30s, mezzo soprano, C4-E5. Female identifying. A former painter, now head docent, primed to take a second shot.
*Victorine Meurent: “eternally 19”, alto, F3 to D#5. Female identifying. A Self made Parisian painter and the model of Edouard Manet. The muse and “naked” figure of Manet’s Dejeuner sur L’Herbe; she will NOT BE FULLY NUDE but will be costumed in collaboration with the actor to be comfortable and feel beautiful in sheer, revealing drapery in nude or white tones, to suggest the nudity of the painting. Should be comfortable showing skin.
*Ron. Overworked curator in the throes of a mid-life crisis. This role will be played by BJ Robinson.
*Madame Duffee: 20-40, soprano, Ab3 to D5. Female identifying. An affluent nineteenth century woman with little do but read. Subject of the painting “Mrs. Duffee on a Striped Sofa, Reading” by Mary Cassatt. She will be costumed in a voluptuous striped corset waist dress.
*Manet: 21-51, baritone, C3 to G4. Male identifying. The famous French nineteenth century painter.
